MCF: How it Works
MCF is an online charitable donation platform. You deposit money, get an instant tax receipt and make donations to any Registered Canadian Charity. At any time you can conveniently access all your tax receipts and view all your account activity. Creating a charity fund with MCF is a great alternative for charitable giving without having to set up and manage a foundation
For Individuals and Businesses - MCF gives you the benefits of having your own private foundation, without the overbearing costs and administrative overhead. You have an option of instant or annual Tax Receipts, and then you decide when and where you want to make your contributions. You can even donate anonymously if you wish. Access all your transactions and tax receipts at any time from inside your fund. Create a fund now, and start donating.
For Foundations and Trusts - MCF centralizes your contributions whilst minimizing your paperwork and operating expenses. Step 1) Register a User Profile.
Step 2) Create your own Charitable Fund - your Fund makes it possible for you to disburse donations to different registered Canadian charities.

Creating a fund is free. There is no minimum amount when making a deposit into a Fund.
You can donate to any registered Canadian charity. MCF updates its comprehensive list of registered charities from the CRA on a regular basis.
Fees
Your 3.5% contribution fee is immediately deducted from the total amount deposited (donated) to your My Charity Fund account. The remainder of your funds are available in your Charity Fund account for disbursing to Charities. Your tax receipt is for the full amount of your deposit, including the 3.5% contribution.
Your contribution covers our operations, transaction processing and expanding our platforms services and features.
My Charity Fund has no hidden or additional fees, there are no Registration fees, no Setup fees and no Monthly fees.
By deducting your 3.5% contribution fee when you make your deposit, the specific amount you choose to donate remains fully intact, allowing for 100% of your gift to directly impact the charities.
Tax Receipts & Foundation Acknowledgments
MCF will issue your tax receipt
Your tax receipt is issued for the entire amount you deposit, including the fee.
By default, your tax receipt is processed instantly. Alternatively, you can set your account to have an annual receipt at the end of the year which will list all of your deposits.
You can choose to disburse your deposited money at any time in the future but receive your tax receipt for this year - your money remains in your MCF account, giving you the option of long-term charitable giving while making it possible to claim a large sum of money on a single year’s tax return.
Log into your Fund, and go to the Transactions page. Access all your MCF tax receipts along with all the records of your deposits and donations.
Yes. Because MCF issues your tax receipt, we can facilitate your anonymous donations.
Yes. You can choose to have your donation acknowledgement processed either instantly, when you make your donation, or receive an end-of-year (annual) acknowledgement which will list all your deposits.
Managing Your Fund
Yes. Just login to your dashboard, and click on ‘Create a Fund’ in the sidebar. Choose the Business option, and enter all your business details. You will have access to Deposit money from your business into that fund, and make donations.
Yes, just go to your dashboard for the specific Fund that you want to give them access to. Go to Manage Fund, scroll down to Account Access and enter their name and email address. They will get a confirmation email granting them access. Please note: the Tax Receipt is issued to the main account holder, not to any of the sub-users.
No. If you have registered an account, MCF stores your name, email and other basic information to keep in touch with you and issue your tax receipts. We do not store your credit card details for security reasons.
To donate without creating your own Fund, just search for a charity and donate - you will receive a tax receipt in your email. If you do not register your own Fund, you will have to re-enter your personal information each time you place a donation. You will not have access to your tax receipts or donation history online, at a later date.
Your Donations
MCF will send your donation once it has been reviewed. Donations are disbursed by MCF via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) or by way of cheque through Canada Post.
If you have a created an MCF Fund, MCF will deduct a 3.5% service fee from your deposit- the charity will then receive 100% of the amount you gift to them from your Fund.
If you choose not to register an account, the charity will receive the amount of your donation, minus the 3.5% service fee each time you donate.
If the charity is running a specific campaign, you will be able to contribute to it directly by choosing the campaign from a dropdown menu once you are on the charities page. You can also send a message to the charity alongside your donation.
MCF vs Private Foundation
MCF’s customizable dashboard provides your Fund with limitless charitable potential and flexibility. Our transparent and straightforward digital records’ system helps you minimize CRA audits as it tracks your deposit and donation history. MCF cuts administrative and overhead costs to a bare minimum while greatly reducing the burden of paperwork. MCF also gives you unlimited access to your personal Fund, allowing you to donate to any registered Canadian charity, as often as you wish.
Yes. The MCF platform helps registered Canadian charities by reducing their administrative expenses that are incurred when processing donations. MCF does the administrative “heavy lifting” which increases the value of your donation to the charity, ensuring that the entire amount of your gift supports the causes you care most about.
Security
The My Charity Fund website maintains the highest levels of Internet security to safeguard your personal information, transactions and peace of mind. We vigilantly apply various encryption methods throughout the entire MCF website to encrypt sensitive information, including passwords. Additionally, we do not store credit card numbers. This way, MCF can provide account holders with the convenience and ease they expect from our platform without compromising on security while ensuring the correct use of information.
