Services Provided by The Ottawa Food Bank/la Banque D'alimentation D'ottawa
The Ottawa Food Bank provides emergency food relief to literally hundreds of thousands of people per year thus translating that to hundreds of thousands of success stories. Most of this assistance is given to families and individuals though one of the many programs that we assist in the City, whether that program is a local food cupboard, a homeless shelter, a men's or women's shelter, a "drop-in" centre, or a school meal program. Disadvantaged people receiving assistance from the food programs supplied by the Ottawa Food Bank include families, individuals, men, women, children, youth, seniors, the unemployed, the working poor, the physically disabled, the mentally disabled, aboriginal, the new comers, racial and ethnic minorities, homeless people and people at risk of becoming homeless. Each month, 48,000 people use the emergency food service and nearly 37% of these people are children.
