Services Provided by Parents' Lifelines Of Eastern Ontario Family Mental Health Support Association
PLEO operates a telephone helpline for parents concerned with their children's mental health and/or suicide risk. The Family Navigators who answer the phone calls help identify appropriate services for the family to access as well as providing the caller with support in dealing with their situation. It also provides a number of monthly parent support groups in the community so that parents dealing with their children's mental health issues can reach out to others for sharing of information and for support. We distributes an informational monthly e-newsletter to subscribers to keep them aware of events and opportunities for learning to help them support their child/youth. PLEO operates a young adult peer support group for 16 to 24 year olds to help them in their recovery. PLEO is activly involved in community presentations to create awareness and to destigmatize mental illness. We attend many education/school events for parents to educate and promote the support services. We sit on many community committees such as the Suicide Prevention Network to represent the family voice relative to family/youth needs and systemic change.
