NSSS operates the Family Support Centre, a drop-in reesource centre open 9-5 weekdays or by appointment. Families dealing with serious mentall illness are offered personal support, information and guidance in navigating the mental health system. An intensive 12-session education course for families, taught by experienced, trained family members is offered twice each year. Support groups for family members are held monthly in West Vancouver and Squamish. Family peer counselling is available any time, including after hours crisis advice. Quarterly public lectures are presented on topics related to serious mental illness and numerous "partnership presentations" are given to high school and university students community and professional groups (police, ambulance, victim services). An annual wills and estate planing workshop is offered. Several awareness events occur each year, including an annual Walk and participation in comunity parades. Five issue of "The Notepad" newsletter and NSSS Advocacy Bulletin are produced each year. The society's website, www.northshoreschizophrenia.org, provides a wide range of information on mental illness, specific consitions, programs, events and advocacy issue.
