Missionaries board foreign ships arriving in Vancouver Island ports from Duncan to Nanaimo throughout the year to present to the sailors the good news contained in the bible. They present gifts such as toques, sweaters, reading materials and Christian tracts. At Christmas time the gift packages contain various items of personal nature such as pens, combs, sox, soap chocalate bars, etc. The way of salvation is explained to the men by preaching, videos and personal testimonies. Sailors are sometimes taken ashore to go shopping or make a phone call to families or perhaps a church service. Churchservices are sometimes conducted on board when requested.
