Supported by a volunteer board of directors, the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra presented a season of 14 public concerts in Winnipeg in 2015-16, 14 plus performance at the Winnipeg Art Gallery's Live on the Rooftop and one fundraising concert. All public concerts showcased local music students prior to concerts and at intermissions. The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra often features original new arrangements and new compositions by band members and other Canadian talent. The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra Consists of 18 to 22 regular jazz professionals and often features local, national and international guests and up-and-coming talent. The WJO also provides education and outreach programming including the Honour Jazz Band project each June for advanced music students and two Big Band Workshops fall 2015 for over 500 students. These half-day workshops provides middle and high school jazz bands the opportunity for growth and skill development by working closely with WJO musicians and guest artists and by experiencing a full WJO concert at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
