NNS was one of the sponsors for the successful Young Naturalists Art and Literature Competition, a marker activity celebrating 25 years of Nature NS and 75 years of Nature Canada. NNS provided financial support to the Ecology Action Center's beginning educational program that informs the public about cat predation and ways to protect both cats and birds. The NNS President, along with a qualified NNS member, met with the Premier to discuss, from an educational point of view, problems related to some of the province's forestrt practices; they presented the unadulterated available facts about biomass harvesting (focusing especially on soil erosion and depletion) and suggested science-backed, sustainable alternative approaches. The annual Conference focus shifted from the more traditional topics relevant to the host location, to the Anthropocene(human influence on the Earth's most recent geologic period); the Young Naturalists program occurs simultaneously with many opportunities to interact and share.
