In 1988, Strings Across the Sky (SATS) began working working with youth in the High Arctic. Since 2003, the SATS Program has expanded to other remote Northern Regions across Canada. The SATS Program offers regular summer schools and schedules workshops throughout the year. The Organization engages youth in learning through the Lively Art of Fiddling. In our Lending Library of Instruments, there are now over 300 violins circulating. In 2016, we receive additional stringed instruments for our Library. Our easy to learn SATS Method for Fiddling is now available on DVD and CD. SATS has also included guitar lessons in select locations in Canada since 2006. The Strings Across the Sky (SATS) program opens the door to a rich musical experience by introducing children and youth to violin, guitar and musical performance. It combines the best of music, tradition and community spirit. With a focus on First Nation, Inuit and Metis communities throughout Canada. SATS has helped rekindle and sustain the cultural tradition of fiddle music, which once thrived in indigenous communities across Canada. Over the years, hundreds of children have benefited from the music education provided by SATS, promoting self-esteem and accomplishment, learning and teamwork. Our teaching program features 5 to 10 day intensive workshops followed by local community concerts.
