Our mandate is to advance education (among the youth of the area) by conducting a regional science fair at which students may present their research and interact with local professionals. This year, approx. 154 students attended, from which seven were chosen to attend the Canada Wide Science Fair. During our regional fair,ca. 150 judges volunteered their time and expertise, and they were supported by 25 committee volunteers and 40 other volunteers who provided information to the public visitors and maintained order and discipline. Two volunteers accompanied the students to Montreal and gave up 8 days for this activity (travel, registration, and shipping costs were provided for each student). In addition, a number of volunteers (4-8) staffed information sessions held in local chopping malls to provide the public withe information about the science fairs(local, national, and international) and the opportunities which they provide for the youth of the area to learn about science and engineering.
