This year we celebrated our 40th anniversary. As part of the celebration each school accepted the challenge to not only prepare its new play but to take a curated excerpt from an old play and perform it as part of a mass performance on the last night. For the first time Memorial University's Labrador Institute students took part. One community, Mud Lake, which only has 2 or 3 primary students, decided to remount a play that had been written decades ago (about the proposed resettlement of their little village) using the original actors, who far from having been resettled are an even more firmly entrenched and active part of their community. To provide expertise most of the visiting artists were former Festival participants who've gone on to careers in the field of theatre, sound productioon, lighting design, set design, music, broadcasting, dance, etc. It was a joyful "HOMECOMING" - the theme of the Festival.
