Services Provided by Island Pathways
Island Pathways is continuing our program of constructing multi-use pathways to provide safe off road routes for pedestrians, cyclists and those using mobility scooters and wheelchairs. Two pathways were completed including information kiosks and resting benches. Funding was supplied from grants and individual donations with work supplemented by many volunteer hours. The helmet program continues to provide properly fitted helmets to students. The program this year was held at a local elementary school and included a bicycle safety program. These activities were funded by grants from community service clubs. Sales of our Heritage map of Salt Spring Island provides additional funding of our programs. We continue to write for grants and solicit individual donations to fund future programs. All our activities are staffed wholly by volunteers who contribute hours in pathway planning, administration, grant writing and staffing information booths at community events, such as the Fall Fair and Festival. Our volunteers also put in many hours during the pathway preparation and construction.
