LITE stands for Local Investment Toward Employment. LITE uses funds to support employment in the inner-city of Winnipeg. The LITE campaign has 2 main programs: 1. The hamper program purchases food for Christmas hampers distributed to low-income earners in Winnipeg. All supplies are purchased from inner-city enterprises that hire local people. 2. The community grant program provides financial contributions to self help organizations that are creating employment for inner-city residents. LITE also runs the Social Purchasing Portal, a project that connects unemployed residents facing barriers to employment to job opportunities at social enterprises that provide supportive work conditions.
