Services Provided by The Laing House Association
The Laing House Association is a peer support organization for youth and young adults aged 16 to 30 who are living with mental illness. Our programs centre on recovery strategies and support for youth. We provide employment services including career planning, employment counselling and career skills development. We support members through school application & admission support, networking with educational organizations and tutoring. Our Healthy Living and Independent Living programs focus on self-care and self-advocacy. Our Outreach programs work to build strong relations with current and potential referring partners, increase public knowledge of youth mental illness and dispel the myths and stigma surrounding mental illness. We also provide outreach to youth during hospital stays. Our Youth Speak program allows members to share their own stories of illness and recovery with high school students, post secondary students and community and corporate groups. Our Community Development Project is taking our peer support model to other communities in Nova scotia. Also, there are other social, creative arts and recreational programs carried on.
