Vancouver Emergency Community Telecommunications Organization (VECTOR) is a100% volunteer-run emergency communications program now in its 17th year ofuninterrupted program delivery.Our served community comprises more than 610000 residents and innumerable workers and visitors to the City of Vancouvereach day.VECTOR was established to aid the community in times of civil emergencies through the provision of trained federally licensed radio communications volunteers. The VECTOR program designs,builds,maintains and operates a robust emergency telecommunications network put in place to bridge the gap when normal systems may have failed or offer insufficient capacity to meet needs presented by an emergency situation.VECTOR recruits and trains volunteer members to manage the program and deliver services to the community as required. Over the course of the past year VECTOR volunteers continued tomaintain and develop our communications network;refined our deployment plans;carried out numerous training activities and exercises;and,continued to build upon the membership's operational readiness.Many throusands of hours of community service were delivered by VECTOR program volunteers including the provision of communications services supporting various civic events involving hundreds of thousands of Metro Vancouver area residents.
