HCLN offers free basic skills tutoring programs to adults in the Halifax area from September to June. Adult learners are assessed and paired with a volunteer tutor who will work with them once to twice a week. Programs take place at branches of the Halifax Public Libraries including the Captain William Spry, Halifax North, Keshen Goodman, and Spring Garden Road branches. All programs are supervised by a paid coordinator. Each year, HCLN manages up to 200 learners and volunteers. This year, HCLB received funds to offer a GED class in Spryfield. This is a special project made possible throught the Canada-Nova Scotia Labour Market Agreement. At present, 15 adults are studying 4 days per week to prepare to write the GED exam
