SMH Comedy Society teaches stand up comedy to persons with mental illness as a means of fighting the stigma of mental illness, building self-esteem, and allowing the participants the ability to focus on what they can do rather than what they cannot. The course pairs individuals with mental illness to meet three hours once a week for a full year to study with trained counsellors and professional stand-up comedian instructors.
