In 2016, MNC added to its various patient support programs through the launch of its Within Reach: Patient Peer to Peer Support service. This service provides an opportunity for new patients, or patients with a change in their medical status, to connect with another patient who shares a similar path. Additionally, MNC received an average of 2,000 calls from patients and family members seeking information about a diagnosis, treatment or mental health support. The organization also developed and distributed 50,000 patient resources and quarterly newsletters nationwide in English and French, while the MNC website supported over 4,000 visits per month. These resources along with the Melanoma Patient Information Sessions that are held acrossCanada provide valuable information for melanoma patients, their caregivers, health care providers. Similarly, in 2016 MNC made great advances with its education programs. The Screen Me (tm) Sun Aware (tm) Camp Program was able to educate over 70,000 youth and over 800 staff on sun safety best practices to help prevent melanoma and other skin cancers from developing in the future.
