Services Provided by Salish Sea Marine Rescue Society
Salish Sea Marine Rescue Society is the support society for Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCM-SAR), Station 20 on Pender Island. Station 20 provides 24/7/365 marine emergency response and boating safety service in the Southern Gulf Islands area. Based in Browning Harbour on North Pender Island, the Station serves the islands and communities of North and South Pender, Saturna, Mayne and Galiano and, when necessary, Salt Spring Island in conjunction with the Station based there. During the year RCM-SAR Pender Island members donated many volunteer hours in training and preparation for rescue missions, and were tasked by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) to many marine incidents in the Southern Gulf Islands. Station 20 also attended several community events promoting marine safety and providing a safety vessel.
