Girls E-Mentorship Innovation (GEM) officially launched its full e-mentorship program in September 2014. the program matches approximately 40 at-risk young women (between the ages of 14 to 18) in the Greater Toronto area (GTA) with successful career women in various fields such as science and medicine law, finance, education and technology. After a year long pilot program between September 2013 to June 2014, GEM developed a full curriculum whereby the mentors and mentees could follow and focus on key issues and topics throughout the mentoring relationship such as studying habits, interviewing skills, university selection and applications,etc. In addition to the mentorship program, GEM employees and volunteers developed work shops for the GEM employees and volunteers developed work shops for the GEM mentees in the area of health and wellness (stress management), career selection, leadership skills and job interviewing to name a few. In 2016, GEM co-organized along with Bishop Strachan School to host the first IOT Summit whereby leaders in various industries attended to speak at the event to over 100 attendees (open to GEM and non-GEM girls(.
