Royal Canadian Air Cadets 222 Shuswap Squadron serves local and area youth between the ages of 12 and 19 years. The Squadron Sponsoring Committee supports and houses weekly training activities for an average of 30 cadets. Cadet activities include power flying, gliding, survival, ground school classes, parade, sports exercises, and rifle range. The cadets in return participate in and assist with community events, such as Royal Canadian Legion poppy sales, Remembrance Day ceremonies, and clean up for various community events. Hundreds of hours of volunteer time make this program possible: attending to the organisation of business, civilian volunteers (range coaches); uniform care instructions at "boot camp" or providing transportation for cadets. Volunteers also work alongside the cadets for community service and fundraising activities.
