Lights Out Canada Day-Schools register to participate on the Lights Out Canada website.Each registered school receives an organizing guide,posters,andlesson plans targeted at an elementary school audience or a middle/high school audience. The lesson plans provide details on the science of climate change,why it happens,the consequences of climate change and what students can do to make a difference. They also receive information and support on implementing environmentally firendly practices in their schools.On Lights OutCanada Day,participating schools turn their lights off,where it is safe to do so and without compromising the learning environment. Teachers implementthe provided lesson plans and activities in their classrooms throughout theday. Lights Out Canada has volunteers from across Canada to ensure the program'ssuccess. High chool and university students are able to volunteer through the "Provincial Ambassadors" program. Provincial Ambassadros carry out outreach and raise awareness about the program and why it is beneficial for schools to participate. Provincial Ambassadors are responsible for coordinatingthe program in schools within their province.
