PROJECT DESCRIPTION The proposed project is a project designed to improve community practices in newborn care and to ensure a continuum of care by forging better linkages between the community and the health care facilities providing neonatal care. GOAL Awareness creation and Health education to bring about a change in community practices regarding newborn care specially Kangaroo care, breast feeding, asepsis and recognition of sick baby, provision of safe neonatal transport and developing linkages with facilities providing neonatal care. RATIONALE "Newborn health is a human right as specified in the Convention on the Rights of the Child." Newborn babies constitute the foundation of a nation and no community can afford to ignore their needs. Neonatal care is highly cost effective because saving life of a new born is associated with survival and productivity for more than 6 decades.
