Open Source Text Canada (OSTC) is a new Canadian charity working to advocate for and create Open Educational Resources in Canada. OSTC works on multiple global development projects. Here are some of them: SBI4U (Grade 12 Biology) Textbook Test, Historical Canadiana, Government Advocacy. OSTC has to create works to a specific criteria, the Ontario curriculum. This is content of value, but once it is done it moves into the new internet paradigm where it is constantly improved by users who simply come and download the content. OSTC can match the quality of current textbooks by hiring the same people other publishers do to create their works. OSTC is beginning work to organize a presentation to Ministries of Education regarding Open Education and how a new approach to doing textbooks can help.
