ACRE's programs in 2016 focused on a range of land stewardship activities and enhancing understanding of nature conservation in the municipality of Chelsea. As a land trust, ACRE is positioned to acquire land on behalf of the community, and manage all aspects of these acquisitions as land trusts. While we did not acquire lands in 2016, we have several active projects for the acquisition of important conservation lands. Long lead times for land acquisitions are characteristic of land Trust projects. ACRE works in collaboration with the Municipality on issues including the quantity and quality of the drinking water and protection of wetlands, as well as habitat restoration and biodiversity protection. ACRE provided support the develop of a new Municipal sustainable development strategy as a prerequisite to the new Management Plan. ACRE includes Nature Chelsea, a project launched in cooperation with the Municipality, which includes the documentation of Chelsea's biodiversity, as essential input to the Master Plan. More specifically, the Nature Chelsea work completed a Conservation Values Map and submitted this to the Municipal Planning Process ACRE is a community resource on key issues related to biodiversity, conservation and sustainable development, including public education and special events.
