Onakawana Education Fund is a Support of Schools and Education Charity located in Toronto, ON.

Services Provided by Onakawana Education Fund
Camp Onakawana is an educational trust that focuses on bringing young people together and with the help of Traditional Elders, reconnect to their culture. With a focus on education through hands on learning, the youth can absorb traditional knowledge as well as the fundamentals of life skills. Our programs are geared toward empowering and serving the youth with programs that prevent mental health problems and hopefully expand their horizons to a brighter and broader future through arts, outdoor learning and traditional knowledge and counselling in a remote environment. One of our main programs we are launching this year is in tandem with Swim, Fish, Drink Canada. we are following a group of youth through the states of the wildlife at the camp. Tracking the animals, their need for clean water, then, tanning the hide, then teaching the youth how to sew and bead the hides into moccasins. The Onakawana river that runs through the camp is an important part of survival, both for the animals and people that live up there. The youth will film and write about their experiences throughout the seasons and stages of this program.
