The GGPAAF promotes and celebrates Canadian artists and volunteers who have made outstanding lifetime contributions to the performing arts in Canada. In 2016, we did this through: - partnership with the National Arts Centre, culminating in the presentation of the major, live stage production attended by a national audience - partnership with the National Film Board, who, each year, create the incomparable short films about each laureate. - partnership with the Canada Council for the Arts - a national media campaign focusing on recipients, the Gala - a communications program soliciting nominations from the arts community and general public - selection of recipients through peer assessment juries with members of Canada's arts community - liason with the Office of the Governor General and the Speaker of the House of Commons to promote and celebrate the awards and recipients - ongoing government and corporate relations to enhance awareness of these awards - our website, and engagement in social media, which informs the community and general public about our current and past award recipients - continued work on the "Arts Nation/Nation en art" initiative. - presentation of a national press conference, announcing new recipients and their contributions to the arts in Canada. 2016: continued and built upon the high-tech, cross-country event linking laureates via computer to central location on a main screen.
