Inner City Angels designs and delivers innovative arts and learning programs guided by professional artists to children living in Toronto's inner cities and priority neighbourhoods. We focus on the extended hands on and process oriented interdisciplinary arts experience with a generous artist/student ratio that allows for the most dynamic learning environment. We collaborate with other performing and visual arts and arts education organizations, corporations, schools and universities to provide a broad range of programs to children from JK to grade 8 and each year offer artist training opportunities to veteran and emerging artists. We have a roster of 26 artists who are joined by up to 12 teacher candidates from York University, OISE/UT and George Brown College. Artist teams average a fourteen day residency in 50 schools reaching 10,000 children each year and 150 different schools aver five years. The arts program is begins with a "big ides" contexualized within a "rich topic" building literacy and numeracy. Classroom teachers participate in the programs are are left with new skills and ideas for extending art process beyond the artist's visit. Many programs are free and/or subsidized on a sliding scale thanks to our supporters.
