The YWCA operates Crossroads and HERS, two emergency shelters for abused women and their children for safety, support, counselling and practical help. We provide counselling and transition help for abused women in the rural community and assist women with safety planning, information and referrals for housing and social assistance, legal aid, job training, education. Centennial Crescent housing provides second stage housing for abused women and their children. We provide longer term counselling for abused women in Haliburton County. The Community Development program reaches out to families living in poverty through the Food Box and Community Garden programs. We work in collaboration with many partner organizations toward the creation of community food centres in urban and rural locations. The Week Without Violence brings community groups together to plan and implement violence prevention initiatives in Peterborough and Haliburton Counties. Family Court Support/Start is a collaborative service hub which connects abuse survivors with a multi-agency team at the YWCA. GirlSpace is a leadership and personal development program for girls, delivered at schools and community centres.
