The purpose of the Salt Spring Arts Council ("SSAC") is to increase the opportunities of the citizens of Salt Spring Island to enjoy and participate in cultural activities. cultural activities. The SSAC provides a venue for local artists and crafts personsl to exhibit and market their work. In addition, the SSAC provides awards for students pursuing post secondary education in visual or performing arts. The SSAC also sponsors the "Artists in the Classroom" program, where local artists attend island schools to teach students arts. The SSAC also provides grants to local artists to assist in producing visual arts or in accessing professional development. The SSAC is planning to hold a North American Juried Art Show in 2017. The SSAC is actively research the viability of creating a centre/school for the arts.
