Community Thrift Shop Program: This program offers good used clothing, shoes, household items and small furniture for sale at an affordable cost for local families, as well as opportunities for volunteers to learn basic shop operations and retail skills. Donations are accepted from the community and unsaleable items are sorted and recycled. The Community Thrift Shop also acts as a receiving centre for goods which are redistributed to participants of Sooke Family Resource Society's programs. Recipients of goods are identified on the basis of need. The relationships our professional staff build with our participants helps the staff to identify needs and direct donations appropriately. In centralizing the reception and distribution of donated items SFRS has been able to reduce the overhead cost to the agency while increasing the benefit to the community. Any excess of funds from our Thrift Shop Program, above and beyond operating expenses, are redistributed amongst SFRS's programs to support and enhance service delivery.
