The Canadian UNICEF Committee (UNICEF Canada) supports the core work of UNICEF, the leading advocate for children's rights, active in virtually every country in the world, through country programs and National Committees. UNICEF works to help children survive and thrive, from early childhood through adolescence with programs to ensure child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and HIV and AIDS. This work includes, but was not limited to the provision and distribution of vaccines against preventable childhood diseases and vitamin and micronutrient supplements; education and counselling to prevent HIV and AIDS transmissionamong young people and from mother to child; support for children orphaned and made vulnerable by AIDS; clean water and sanitation facilities; disarmament, demobilization and reintegration into society of child soldiers; basic primary education; family and community education programs to reduce violence against children. As well, UNICEF Canada funds life-saving emergency relief programs that provides humanitarian assistance to children affected by emergencies. UNICEF is supported entirely by voluntary donations and helps children regardless of race, religion or politics. Our determination and reach are unparalleled.
