Services Provided by The Food Bank Of Waterloo Region
The Food Bank of Waterloo Region provides a reliable source of safe, nutritious food to agencies in Waterloo Region. Perishable and non-perishable food is sourced through donations, community food drives and recovery programs. Last year, The Food Bank acquired and distributed 5,676,006 pounds of food valued at $14,190,014. The value of this food is the largest revenue and expensive source. Additionally The Food Bank provides coordination and leadership among the food assistance network of Waterloo Region to improve efficiency and effectiveness - key priorities in our organization. This network of programs and services provides community members with emergency food hampers, access to community meals, food education resources, shelter & residential housing, school food programs and support in navigating social services to meet the needs of each individual or family in need. Work on innovative food donation and redistribution options in collaboration with member programs and food banks throughout Southwestern Ontario to help ensure that the food needs of our neighbours are met. Volunteers are involved in all aspects of the charitable programs. In 2015-2016, volunteers donated 22,551 hours of service the equivalent of 11 full time employees helping to keep personnel expenses as low as possible.
