The Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB) BC-Yukon Division is an organization run by the Blind dedicated to providing leadership for the blind and partially sighted to achieve their full potential through guidance,education,resources and public awareness.Our programs Community Outreach & Awareness and Membership Enhancement Social Integration are our foundation.We have collaborated with the CNIB and Access for Sight Impaired Consumers (ASIC);and hosted Open Houses and information sessions throughout the province-100 MileHouse,Abbotsford,Bowen Island,Chilliwack,Comox Valley,Kamloops,Kelowna,Maple Ridge,North Vancouver,and Powell River-to promote awareness and a better understanding of the needs of the blind and partially sighted. Our membership took part in a Technology Workshop that included discussions on how low vision technology can integrate in our lives and how we can find ways to engage in peer mentoring in our communities. There was a techology fair wherevendors showcased devices that can be used on a daily basis for work,recreation,and leisure. Also this year we have been able to get our website up and running. This is a work in progress as it is being maintained by several board memebers,all who are either blind or visually impaired.Online access is important in this day and age,no matter what accessibility issues you may have.
