Reach for the Rainbow's mandate focuses on integration and community development. The agency develops, supports and provides integrated recreational opportunities for approximately 600 children/youth/young adjults with developmental and/or physical disabilities, based on a 1:1 support model. Offered in partnership with 35 children's camps and 8 recreational community programs across Ontario, RFTR encompasses day and overnight mainstream summer camp experiences; young adjult volunteer work/development; and a spectrum of training including an annual RFTR onference (250 individuals) and on-site for each camp staff team and leaders in training (approximately 1,800 individuals). Assistive equipment loans, bussing, and other initiatives are designed to support core programming. Integrated programming is designed to challenge the child with disabilities and promote socialization skills. Resultant respite refreshes families, permits a refocusing towards other relationships in the family dynamic, and generally is vital for a healthy family life, thereby assisting to maintain the child with disabilities within the family home.
