Survival Skills for the Classroom and Beyond. A group of youth and their Leader completed a 75km traverse of the Stein River Valley, from the confluence at the Fraser River to Lizzie Lake. The journey took 10 days to complete, and required specific skills, equipment and preparation to make the trek. Prior to the trip, the students were given a thorough presentation to help assess the needs and demands of the task ahead as a group as well as individuals. They learned in detail about the task ahead, equipment and food required, including appropriate footwear, rain gear, tent, and stove needed; route finding, reading weather, everything that was needed for a successful traverse. Specific preparation also included team building exercises, and personal health and fitness goals... The trip was a great success and provided the youth with an amazing experience.
