As in prior years, the primary aim of the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra ("OSO" or the "Orchestra") is to provide concerts from the large-scale repertoire, including Canadian music, for the general public to enable dedicated local musicians who reach the high standards the Orchestra has set out for itself to play in a full-size symphony orchestra; to provide opportunities for young local concert artists to perform (as soloists or as Orchestra musicians) in a concert hall venue with a large symphony orchestra (approximating 100 musicians). The OSO concert offerings and charitable programs also include an active ongoing music education "Symphony for Schools" programme geared to exposing young school children to the distinctiveness and joy of symphonic music, explaining the nature and characteristics of symphonic music, and enlightening them on the workings of the various musical instruments that comprise the Orchestra.
