MWAG (Muskoka Women's Advocacy Group) is a community organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for women in Muskoka. Since 1984 MWAG has been the sponsoring agency for a number of projects designed to benefit women and their families. It is most noted for operating Muskoka Interval House, a 15 bed shelter for women and their children fleeing domestic abuse and since 2006 Chrysalis, a 10 bed shelter with 10 supportive, geared to income housing units in Huntsville. Associated programs designed to educate the public about violence prevention and assist those who have experienced violence are offered throughout Muskoka. these include non-residential counselling for women and children on an individual and group basis and support for women involved in the legal system. MWAG is the lead agency in our Community Coordinating Committee (DART-Domestic Assault Review team). The Community Outreach Program is designed to meet the needs od children living in social housing throughout Muskoka and is offered in partnership with the Town of Bracebrige. The shelters do a vigorous recycling of clothing and household items by accepting donations and offering them to those in need.
