Bird Studies Canada is Canada's leading national charitable organization dedicated to bird science and conservation, with a mission of conserving wild birds through sound science, on-the-ground actions, innovative partnerships, and public engagement. Each year roughly 40,000 volunteers share their time and bird observations through research and monitoring programs. Volunteers contributed approximately 650,000+ hours in 2015. Ongoing programs: 1) Conducting population studies on targeted species or groups of birds, such as Species at Risk monitoring, owl surveys, marsh monitoring programs, and coastal waterbird surveys. 2) Organizing and managing national and provincial scientific programs to collect, interpret, and analyze data collected by volunteers: breeding bird atlases, eBird Canada, Project FeederWatch, Great Backyard Bird Count, Canadian Lakes Loon Survey, Canadian Migration Migration Monitoring Network, Christmas Bird Count. 3) Coordinating the Motus Wildlife Tracking System, a hemispheric initiative to tag and track migratory birds and other animals using radio telemetry. 4) Co-leading Canada's important Bird Areas Program, a sciencs-based initiative to identify, monitor, and conserve a network of sites that provide essential habitat for Canada's bird populations. 5) Providing educational, outreach & training programs on bird science & conservation, such as Bird Science and Environmental Education school programs, and urban bird programs in Toronto & Vancouver
