CMOS exists for the advancement of meteorology and oceanography in Canada. We publish a refereed scientific journal, Atmosphere-Ocean, and a bimonthly Bulletin for members containing short articles, news and reviews. We host regular public lectures at fourteen CMOS Centres and at the Annual Congress. We hold an annual scientific conference. We cosponsor conferences and workshops with other scientific organisations. We issue public position statements. We provide scholarships, bursaries, prizes, awards and citations for excellence in atmospheric and oceanic science, in teaching, public presentation and interpretation, etc. We provide support for schools, students and educators at local science fairs across Canada. We provide support for teachers to participate in Project Atmosphere and Project Maury, two programs of the American Meteorological Society for the improvement of the teaching of meteorology and oceanography. These programs are jointly supported by the Canadian Society for Geographical Education and the Canadian National Committee for the Scientific Committee on Ocean Science.
