The Institute is a national centre of expertise on legal and policy issues relating to Canada's natural resources. The Institute pursues a mandate of research, education and publication. The Institute initiates projects and responds to requests from the public and private sectors and from non-governmental organizations. Some specific research includes Alberta Wetlands: A Law and Policy Guide; 2015 Update on Alberta First Nations Consultation Handbook; A Critical Exploration of the Southern Saskatchewan Regional Plan;Adaptive Management in Energy and Natural Resources Development in Alberta; a symposium on Environmental Education for Judges and Court Practitioners . The Institute holds courses on contract law for the energy sector and staff teach in the Faculty of Law and other programs. The Institute publsihesits research and conference proceedings.
