Calgary Opera produces 3 mainstage operas per year. a number of education programs are also offered including: Community Symposiums - a series of events exploring the theme of one of the mainstage operas; Pre-Show chats - informative sessions taking place prior to each performance covering story - and music - themes within the particular opera; Student only dress rehearsals, fully-stage performances with all musical and technical elements in place; Let's Create An Opera - a hands on creative learning experience involving the student population of participating schools; Emerging Artist Development Program - a 7-month residency involving professional development/advance training and performance opportunities for young professional singers just starting their careers; Conductor in Residence Program - another emerging artist program but for an upcoming conductor; community/school tour of a short opera, performed by the Emerging Artists, for young audiences; Taste of the Opera - a series providing insight into the upcoming production and the art form in general; "Opera in the Village" summer festival - located in the reviving East Village of downtown Calgary, featuring a mainstage performance of a major musical work with a second stage performance of a Family/Child-centred musical work, solo professional aria performances, community group performances, along with street performers and vendors
