First Link ensures our outreach to health care providers and the community so that individuals and families affected by Alzheimer's disease or another dementia are connected to learning, services and support, ideally at the time of diagnosis, or at any time later in the disease. Formal referral from physicians and health professionals allows for proactive contact with families. Through Resource Centres located throughout the province and our Provincial office, the Alzheimer Society of B.C. provides information, support services and education for people with dementia, their caregivers and family, health care providers and the community. Extensive information resources are available through brochures, fact sheets, quarterly bulletings for people with dementia and for caregivers, and on our website. Support services include the toll free Dementia Helpline, in person and telephone support, support groups for people with early symptoms and fore caregivers. Education is provided through a wide variety of workshops, series and conference and also via teleconference/online mode. In addition, Minds in Motion, available in many communities, offers fitness, social interaction and activities for people with early symptoms of dementia and their care partners.
