The Alberni Valley Childcare Society is a local organization dedicated to providing inclusive quality childcare programs (Stepping Stones) to families in the Alberni Valley. The programs are currently located at 3 sites; Stepping Stones Hilton Centre, Stepping Stones Too at 4210 Cedarwood, and Stepping Stones Alberni at Alberni Elementary School. Stepping StonesToo Babysteps Infant and Todder Care, and 3-5 years childcare Stepping Stones Hilton Centre 3-5 years childcare, preschool and before and after school care Stepping Stones Alberni 3-5 years childcare, preschool and before and after school care Baby Steps infant and toddler care. Staff time has been committed to teaching the following Early Childhood programsat schools and in the community: Mother Goose on the Loose, and Roots of Empathy. We have also started a "Story Soup Garden" that links literacy skills to growing food and teaches the children about nutrition and environmental stewardship. Alphabet Soup-a literacy through nutrition program aimed at the infant and toddler age group (birth to 36 months), and involving families as literacy and nutrition supports with their infants. Weekly in class nutrition component, and parent educational workshops are scheduled throughout program year.
